quick update on the above....... purchased parts from Extreme Marine (thanks nick) total inc Vat and shipping 126 euro

paid for them tuesday, they were mailed wednesday and received them friday (2 days flat)

parts are original tohatsu and made and packaged in JAPAN......

So, anyone needing parts, check online before going to the local agent...... in our case we saved circa 221 euro and got them shipped faster than the 1 week quoted by the suppliers.

we are maltese...... we take no s***  Grin

Yes a lot of maltese companies (NOT ALL) think that their the only ones in the world selling the prouct and charge the price x5
Today people have the internet and get to know the real prices = saving money

its a viscous circle. The supplier in Malta charges high because the volume is low so he needs to mark up (no excuse to any supplier mind u), so we buy from abroad.....money is being exported, supplier slows down in sales....circulation of money gets slow.....hey presto we have a recession.....government introduces more taxes usually we get it and gives tax breaks to supplier...........where does it end?!?!?! any economists here to enlighten us.

Oh by the way i worked hard all my life and dont have a fraction of what businessman have so there must be a SMALL profit .......

also, i am assuming, (something as an accountant i should not be doing), but lets assume, that in Mecca Marine's quote, Vat at 18% is included. If it is not...... before calculating any surplus, we must reduce the 17.5% Vat paid in the UK.

Therefore, IF Mecca's quote does NOT include VAT, the surplus is 346 euro (Mecca's price) less 96.65 sterling (extreme marine's price inc shipping but excluding VAT at 17.5%) which works out to 105 euro, thus surplus being 241 euro for 2 bolts and 2 mountings....... however, we will never know as we did not ask this before.

will scan extreme marine's invoice tomorrow if i find the time as proof of the above.

i loved this topic.....well done guys.........thumbs up for those LINKS........

these so called "agents" just can't realize that people are getting more and more stuff online then locally.

i almost never check prices here in Malta i get them immediately from abroad, from the comfort of my PC directly to my doorstep, all original and alot cheaper.

the only things i buy locally are small stuff that i can't afford waiting for them to arrive

I fully agree that items are cheaper from abroad but some times it depends .recently i purchase diagnostic s/w and cable for my motor from the local agent. The cable came about 90$ cheaper and the s/w 200$+ cheaper. So i always compare price first.
